What size wire and amps does an electrical water heater take?

I am in the process of researching electrical water heaters, right now I have a gas one and want to make sure I have the right wiring and amps before I purchase one.

It's always good practice to consult a certified electrician and plumber before you do any major home projects of this nature. As luck would have it my husband is a certified plumber/electrician. The minimum wire size and amperage is 10/2 size romex wire with a 30 amp breaker.
