Make sure that you check local ordinances to be sure that owning such a pet is legal, or you risk it being taken away if someone complains about the funny noises it makes. Check to be sure it is compatible with any other pets you might have.

Pot bellied pigs are very intelligent animals and they can make great family pets. However, they need stimulation or they can become bored and, on occasion, destructive. They generally enjoy good health but do require yearly vaccinations and trimming of their hooves.

First, you should know that pigs are very smart animals and can be trained easily. They can grow quite large, not nearly as big as the average sow though. They can be messy and will need fresh food daily.

Although affectionate and intelligent, they require a lot of work/care. They can be destructive if not given plenty of attention. It may be difficult to find a vet who can treat one, or zoning may not allow you to keep one. They also grow to a *very* large size.

These cute little beasts will NOT stay little. When Pot Bellied Pigs mature they grow, taller AND fatter. Most people are under the impression that they stay small and cute. Wrong! If you don't mind a bigger animal in the future then by all means get one.
