Your dog may not trust you much at first, especially if it was abused. You just have to comfort the dog and try to make a happy and healthy home.

Watch for playfulness or aggression around children or food. Observe your dog's behavior around strangers, babies, other family members. Watch for growling, teeth showing, raised lip, raised ears, no tail wagging, nervousness, constant jumping on people, inability to hold his urine or feces, knows his/her pack leader.

The dog can be scared in a situation like that. Perhaps the dog has been beaten by someone before and also the new people and surroundings can make it feel insecure. Then it might want to bite anyone who somehow resembles the beater. It might also urinate indoors.

Remember that they need time to adjust to you and their new surroundings. Be patient when training them, reward them for good behavior, but no harsh punishment for bad behavior.
