Rinse your mouth with warm salt water two to three times a day, especially after meals. Use acetaminophen to treat this minor pain, and notify your dental provider of the problem. It may be something that the provider may need to see you for. Don't worry though, this is just to assess the situation for any problems.

a little tooth discomfort after a filling is expected. However if the pain persists and seems to be coming from within the tooth it may indicate that the nerve is still getting irritated or than there may be an infection and pus. Antibiotics and removal of the filling will heal an infection. A root canal may be needed.

You should return to your dentist. Typically pain should be gone within a day. Your dentist may have missed some of the decay and filled over it. This is not as uncommon as you may think.

It is common to have tooth pain after a filling, if it continues you should consult with your dentist to make certain that he did not miss anything.

Try taking an over the counter anti-inflammatory such as Ibuprofen. Try Aleve if that doesn't work. Your tooth pain is probably coming from swelling which should be reduced by these medications. It is not recommended to exceed more than 800mg of Ibuprofen in one day so keep that in mind.
