If you notice that you have smoke, first open the hood. Be careful as it may be hot. Look where the smoke is coming from: the front, back or sides of the engine. Next look to see if the smoke is coming from hoses or from pipes. If a hose, you have a broken water line.

Don't drive it and get a mobile mechanic to come and look at it or have it towed to a mechanic. If a radiator hose is leaking it's a very serious issue that can overheat and wreck your engine. If it's oil then that is equally as serious. Driving it could irreparably damage the engine.

First you should stop driving it immediatly. It sounds like your car is burning oil that is leaking from the head gasket. It may be as simple as needing a new seal or you may need the entire gasket replaced. But driving without oil would be even worse and more expensive.

You should definitely not drive it like that. Have a mechanic come and look at it to make sure it is not dangerous and to tell you what's wrong.

Chances are, you have a leak somewhere. Open the hood and attempt to identify the leak without burning yourself. If there is to much steam, let the car cool and see if you can find the leak. Check coolant levels before driving the car when it is cool enough.

Parked Nissan Maxima and look under the hood and hit the throttle, white smoke coming from back of the motor. For Driver safety if you see or smell burning oil smoke under the hood, it may be as simple as an oil leak. Anyway you should be putting a 50/50 mix of water.
