Silver and white gold go great for settings for Onyx Jewelry. The black rock is shown off on the contrast of the silver and white gold. It's not expensive to use silver or silver plated metal if you cannot afford silver settings. Also white gold is fairly cheap when compared to gold.

It is best for onyx to be set with prongs, as opposed to channel set. Onyx comes lots of colors. 'Black onyx' is generally dyed black agate.
