The Pilgrims were not Quakers or Catholic, but they were an ultra conservative form of Protestantism. Often mistaken for being Puritans, they were separatists of the Church of England (Puritans considered themselves a part of the Church of England). Interestingly, they were persecuted not for their beliefs but because they wanted to overthrow the Church of England.

The Pilgrims were Separatists, who desired a clean break from the Church of England. They would be seen as part of the larger group of Calvinist Christians identified as Puritans.
