I would say that you need to ask the basic questions "How do we start doing this? Do I need to try to locate the father for proof of paternity? Do I need to provide an address for the other parent or will the courts find that information for me? How much will your services cost? " Things like that.

Your attorney really can guide YOU, they know what is required. You will be asked to show your income, but in most cases the state has a well laid out requirements. Bring any bills for extra expenses like braces, ballet classes,etc- things your child needs above and beyond basic care.

There are laws that govern child support. Most states have a formula based on parental earnings (or potential earnings) that determines the amount of child support. An attorney can help you get things like medical/dental insurance, private school tuition, incidental travel expenses, etc. but child support is actually something you can get for yourself.

How much do they charge? How much do you pay if they do not get you any money? What is their track record in getting payment from the other payment?
