There are many plants that are not toxic to children or pets and are easy to grow. These include spider plants (which work well in hanging baskets that are out of the of children too), Wandering Jew, which grow quickly by bright light, and Boston Ferns, which grow well in decent lighting and the cooler spots of your home.

Most common cooking herbs can be grown within the home in an area with plenty of warmth and light. They require little attention outside watering and will be safe if accidently consumed by pets or children
