Question by  fruitfly (126)

What medication do you give to rabbits with botfly?

My pet has gotten sick, he seems to have some type of maggot all over him.

This happened to my rabbit once. I was able to get the maggot off, and then used hydrogen peroxide on the wound. The hydrogen peroxide will not hurt the rabbit.

Bots (internal parasites) are probably not the concern here, you may have intended 'blowfly' (or 'screwworm'). In any case, removal of all larvae present is essential. Some may have burrowed in a bit under the skin and these areas (typically around the vent) need immediate attention. Clip all fur away from affected areas and flush well with hydrogen peroxide.

Please take this rabbit to the vet. rabbits are very sensitive to disease and stress and can die very quickly. Rabbits should never be kept outside. They are litterbox trained and very social. Please only keep your pet rabbits inside.
