Carbonation makes the fizz in soda. Carbonation does come from a gas, but it is not harmful, unless you drink carbonated drinks in large amounts. Drinking too many carbonated beverages can cause bloating, tummy ache, and even heartburn, for some consumers.

If it were harmful, the FDA wouldn't allow soda to be sold. The fizz is made by carbon dioxide (CO2), the same stuff you breathe out. It won't hurt you. Soda starts off flat, and bottling plants force the carbon dioxide into the bottles so it mixes with the liquid to make it fizz.

The fizz in soda has to do with the carbonation factor. It is not harmful -it is just air inside your beverage.

The carbanation or fizz in soda is yeast. Believe it or not yeast gives off gas giving soda its fiz. If you want homemade soda about an 1/8 teaspoon of yeast for a gallon of soda would give it enough fizz. Also club soda is good thing to mix with punches and such, but can have too much fizz.
