You can normally fit any head unit in a radio slot. They all take the same connections, the only difference that can occur is in the ariel connection.

Any kind of radio can go in a Ford Explorer because the box that holds the radio in comes in different sizes to fit almost any vehicle.

Any kind of radio can go in it, you just have to try hard enough. It doesn't matter whether the radio belongs in the car or not if you really want it. If you are more concerned about the car then you obviously don't need a radio in the first place.
