A mutt is any dog who isn't purebred, hence the difference in appearance in them. A mutt can have two purebred parents, of different breeds, one purebred parent and one of mixed breeds or both parents can be mixed breeds. The so called Hybrid dogs and designer breeds are also mutts.

A mutt is a mix-breed. It can be a cross between two purebred or they can be from mixed parents. They have unique looks because the parents can be anything. They are generally less prone to genetic disorders than purebreds and can make wonderful pets.

A mutt is just a breedless dog, that's why they don't look the same. Even within the same litter, puppies might look very different, because of possible different father dogs.
