Investment banking requires a solid background in economics and finance. Many people in the field take an undergraduate degree in one field and a graduate degree in another, or a take a degree in accounting and then study economics and finance. An understanding of the markets, world economy and investment is required as well.

You can obtain a 4-year banking degree, but economics, finance and investing are also valuable. Some schools offer double majors such as banking and investing. Financial Planning certification is helpful.
