The Winter and Company's pianos of the 1940's era are unique in that they have an aluminum plate, or metal frame that was produced by Alcoa to reduce the piano's weight.

Winter and Company's pianos from the 1940's were made with an aluminum plate, also known as an Alumatone plate. This is different than the cast iron plates in other models. It was a much lighter piano. By the 1950's, aluminum plates were no longer used in pianos as it did not stand up as the iron plates did.

Winter and Company's pianos introduced the Alumatone plate; developed Practiano, a device permitting piano practice without disturbance to others in the room; and the Resotonic Scale.
