Tower refers to the box that containing processors and memory chips of a desktop computer. This box stands on one of it's thinner sides hence "Tower".

I believe this is referring to a desktop tower. This is referring to the shape of the actual computer, resembling a tower. Usually around 7-8 inches wide and 12-15 inches tall.
