Specialty foods and medicines reduce the amount of protein in the diet and increase the salt. This reduces ammonia production and increases water intake. You can try it yourself with homemade food out white meat and quite a bit of salt. Make sure a LOT of water is available! If it doesn't work after a few weeks, see a vet.

If they're not large then they can be managed with diet. There are many foods available for this, they contain less protein and help the stones devolve. If there are no changes after 6 months with diet changes, then surgery may be necessary.
