A patella is the medical name for a human knee. If the patella scar is from surgery, the sutures must be kept clean and dry to prevent infection. After the sutures are removed, wait three weeks then begin applying cocoa butter twice a day. Patella abrasions from a fall should be kept clean and treated daily with a topical antibiotic cream.

Immobilization of the patella or Achilles tendon is essential for recovery. Physical therapy has to work to improve two things: flexibility and length of the scar tissue.
