You can propagate the lemongrass you have by using root division. Make sure the stalk has about an inch of the root well attached. To be on the safer side, divide the blade to about 2 inches. Remember, lemograss has an extensive root system.

Please be careful when watering them. In the growing season you can allow the soil to dry a bit between waterings, but not too much. In winter water the lemongrass sparingly. Also remember that lemongrass will die when frozen or under snow.

It is really easy to grow yourself new lemon grass. If you have a ton of it just use a hand spade to bring up some stalks gently so you don't break the roots and separate it. Put it in a planting pot until the roots have taken hold.

Wanna add that this is best started in summer - under the full sun in well draining soil. Use a pot or container that is at least three gallons to start off.  add a comment

Propagating lemon grass is very simple and I see you've gotten some good answers but I did want to mention that lemongrass dries out easily so make sure to watch newly rooted and transplanted stalks to see if they need water or use a moisture pad in the pot.

Ouch! I forgot about mine for 2 weeks and had brown dead grasses. Growing zones is important too. In winter climate bring them indoors if they are in pots.  add a comment

If you have purchased at the store look for a lemon grass stalk that still has a bulbous base, pull off any dead leaves, trim 2 or 3 inches off the top, put it in a glass that contains shallow room temp water and set it in a sunny window.

To improve the chances of it growing well, i would recommend that you dip the bulb in some rooting hormone powder - you can get this at any plant store or nursery.  add a comment

Lemon grass is propagated by the process of root division. When dividing tufts of grass, one inch of root should remain attached with each shoot.
