A normal sized plecostamus can grow up to two feet long (assuming there is enough space in the tank). A large tank is recommended for plecostamus enthusiasts. Smaller tanks may inhibit growth and even cause premature death. Bigger is better for a pleco.

Plecos can grow up to 6 feet in the wild. They will grow to the size of the tank, so the better question is how big of a pleco do you want? When you are putting a pleco into a tank, use the general rule of thumb; One Gallon for every inch of fish (but remember, some do need more).
