Described as one of the most beautiful flowers in the world, botanist Emilio Robledo chose the orchid Cattleya trianae as the representative flowering plant of Columbia. The flower was named after the Colombian naturalist José Jerónimo Triana and is also known as also known as the Flor de Mayo ("May Flower") or "Christmas Orchid".
