The Dell Dimension 4300s has a maximum of 512 Mb PC133 SDRAM non-ECC. This is because of the limitations of the dell motherboard. You can either have 2 256 Mb of memory or a single 512 Mb since it has 2 memory slots. Even if you put 1 Gb it will still detect only 512 Mb.

You can use 512MB as maximum memory with two memory sticks of 256MB or one memory stick of 512MB because there are two memory slots available in this Dell model.

It depends on what OS you use. If you use a 32 bit OS, it can go up to 4GB ram. 64 bit can hold anything you put in it.
