I recently called Division of Family Services here in Missouri to ask about laws regarding legal ages for babysitters and/or latch key kids. I was informed there is no age restriction. I was told that maturity levels of the child/children in the given situation should be my guideline, not age.

This is great. I am 11 and I really want to babysit but i didn't know if there was an age requirement. Do you know how old the child must be for me to babysit him/her? I like babysitting young infants but I can babysit older children too! Thank you!  add a comment

You have to be at least 11 years to be able to babysit anyone, even family/ siblings, you should also be at least this age to be at home alone.

One is able to babysit in Missouri starting at age eleven. This includes anyone, including family members in which one is watching.

Well to be honest, there is no legal age for baby sitting. But if you want to get a certification you have to be atleast 15. Baby sitting can actually be arranged privately.

According to state law, you must be 11 years old to babysit in Missouri. This includes baby sitting for other families AND watching your own siblings. You are not allowed to be alone, in a home with other children, unless you are 11 years old.

The legal age to babysit in Missouri is eleven years old. This age does apply in most areas as it is considered old enough to be able to watch younger children and keep them safe, it is found that at eleven you are responsible enough to act in an emergency.

In general there is no law about when a person can baby sit. There are laws about when a child can be left alone at home. 12 is the age.

You have to be eleven years old to watch any children, including siblings. The law feels with proper training, an 11 year old would know to react in an emergency.

For every moron posting WRoNG info: there is NO LEGAL AGE REQUIREMENTS in Missouri to babysit. This is stated per Div.of Social Services and Independence Police Department! I personally just spoke with both. It is your own opinion based on the maturity of said minor babysitter-no age restriction!!

Eleven seems too young to be held responsible for children even younger than that. I would suggest you also evaluate their maturity level.

Eleven seems young to be held responsible for other children, it is the law, however, I would strongly suggest that their maturity level be evaluated as well.
