The furnace circuit board controls the fan, heating elements or air conditioning condensing unit if applicable. It also provides the low voltage power source for the thermostat as well as receiving control input from the thermostat. Without this circuit board the system will not function properly and will require servicing.

Newer furnaces, like many new appliances, are almost entirely computer controlled. The circuit board takes information from various sensors and switches (not the least of which is your thermostat) and uses the information to decide when the furnace should kick in (and is safe to do so)

The job of the circuit board has the main job of turning the heat on when the thermostat is reading at a lower temperature than what it is set at. It is just like a tv or computer and that is its main function is to turn on and off.

The furnace circuit board tells the furnace when to turn on and off and maintains the furnace's temperature. Without a furnace circuit board, the furnace would not be able to turn off when it is hot enough.

The purpose of the circuit board is to control the furnace. The circuit board causes the furnance to turn on and off as the settings dictate on your home cantrol panel. If your furnace wont turn on or if the home is not as warm as it should be it is usually caused by a short in the circuit board.
