What is the history of the invention of cell phones?

I remember when they were a lot bigger than they are now.

Cell phones have been around since the early 60's, but the cell phones of the 60's were car phones which required large amounts of power and cost a fortune to use (much less own). The cellular devices of today are much more practical due to advance in technology.

I had a 1 kg mobile! The "handy" celphone was first seen in 73 by Motorolla. After the 1st genereation the UMTS technology took over and got us the Smartphone.
