Depending on the city that you are located, there may be a area where you can drop of your hazardous materials without harming the environment. Some of these places will allow you to dump the item for free without any charges. You will need to go to your local city hall to find the locations.

The National Fire Protection Association has these procedures and criteria for replacing fire department equipment. With these include the retirement procedures that look into the length of service of a specific equipment vis a vis from the time it was manufactured, its compliance to updated standards on fire equipment and the manner it would be disposed after retirement.
