What is the etiquette about wedding gifts?

It is best to follow their registered gift list if they have. If it cost too much, you can give gifts as a group so that everybody could pool in money for a very expensive gift on their registered gift list. In Catholic weddings, sponsors usually give around $300 to $500, and closer relatives could give higher monetary values.

The general rule of thumb is to spend on the gift approximately what the couple would spend on you as a wedding guest. For example, if they are having a formal dinner at $30 a plate and you and your significant other attend you would spend $60 on a gift.
