Socialism is when the government is involved in private enterprise, often being a partial or full owner of some companies. However, other private companies and private property exists. In communism, the government owns everything; private property (like houses) and businesses are not allowed. Also, democracy can exist in socialism. Communist countries have never been true democracies.

Socialism-an economic system based on state ownership of capital; communism-a form of socialism that abolishes private ownership. Another difference between Socialism and Communism is from the word according to Marx, socialism is a stage on the way to communism, which is the more advanced stage of human organization.
