What is the difference between organic and inorganic chemistry?

I have to take both in school and I don't know why.

In one word, carbon. Organic chemistry deals with the chemistry of the building blocks of life, which are essentially carbon based molecules; primarily amino acids. Chemistry deals with all other chemical reactions such as the mixing of acids and bases.

Organic compounds are organic and nature and constist of carbon. Inorganic compounds are the compounds that don't contain carbon bonds. So organic chemistry is the study of carbon bonds and inorganic chemistry is the study of the rest of the periodic table of elements
