What is the difference between motherhood and maternity?

The names of clothing departments are very confusing.

Maternity means you're still expecting and the baby is still inside of you. Motherhood means that you already had your child but may have some of the extra baby weight still.

To be absolutely technical, maternity clothing would be clothing and accessories for pregnant women and motherhood would refer to clothing and accessories for new mothers. While you're pregnant, you really only have to make concessions for your baby belly. After you have a baby, especially if nursing, you want clothes that are comfortable and accessible.
