Hepatitis B can be contracted through sexual contact or saliva, as well as from shared needles in IV drug users; can be cleared with meds or clears up by itself. There's a vaccine for hep B but not C. HCV is blood borne. It is treatable but harder to clear.

Hepatitis B could be in two forms. As a short term illness or a long term illness while hepatitis C is a long term illness. Hepatitis B could be spread through blood or other body fluids while hepatitis C could only be spread through blood.

They are caused by two different viruses. Hepatitis B is more contagious, being transmissible through sexual contact and bodily fluids, from mother to child during childbirth, through sharing of infected needles, etc. HCV is a blood-borne virus, primarily contracted through transfusions prior to '92 and through sharing of infected needles.

They both affect the liver but hepatitis C is more infectious than hepatitis B and it has more of an effect on the body.
