What is the difference between folliculitis and genital herpes?

Folliculitis happens when there is an ingrown hair. A bump will appear, and it will have a hair inside of it. This bump will disappear over the next few days when the hair pops threw. Genital herpes is a sexually transmitted disease. This causes warts on the genital area, and it causes itching, redness and rash. Herpes doesn't go away.

The big difference is that genital herpes is a sexually transmitted disease while folliculitis is something more casual because it is an infection of hair follicles. Herpes is caused by the herpes virus when contacting with infected people and folliculitis is caused by bacterias that proliferate when the skin has excess of humidity or sweat and when we shave.

Folliculitis is inflammation of the hair follicles, or the roots where the hairs come out. It is painful but treated fairly easily. Genital herpes is a STD that is extremely painful with flu-like symptoms. Herpes has a blistered, weeping appearance compared to folliculitis.

As both are types of infections that give rise to skin symptoms, folliculitis symptoms can be seen on any part of the body whereas the symptoms for genital herpes are usually on the genitals or areas near the genitals.

Follicle is a small cavity in the body, especially one in which root of the hair develops. Any infection in the follicle is referred as folliculitis, which could be a viral or bacterial infection. On the other hand genital herpes is viral infection which affects the skin or nervous system
