Direct labor is any labor that is involved in producing a product. This amount is then applied to the total cost of the product. Direct labor includes factory workers wages. Direct labor does not include top management salaries, that cost is considered overhead cost.

This is the labor used to directly make a product. The people who work in the factory vs the people in the office, sales or management. It could also be the people performing a service directly, such as cleaning for a cleaning service, but wouldn't include the supervisors or the office staff.
