Ivermectin is a drug taken orally in two doses, two weeks apart. The drug causes mild side effects like nausea and pain. Permethrin is a topical ointment that you apply at night, and then wash off in the morning. It usually only takes one application to complete treatment. A typical side effect is a rash.

The common scabies medication is called Permethrin. I did not see any side effects associated with this particular medicine but as with any medication it is safe to consult a doctor prior to using any medication to understand any risks involved. Also, non prescription medications that can be bought over the counter are not effective at killing scabies mites.
