Think of textured hair like this as being like dry clean only clothing, fragile and precious. Keep it out of the sun and protected, condition it well.

Speeding up the rate of hair growth for African Americans is all about moisture. You must keep the moisture level at 10%, that means low processing and extra conditioning treatments.

Keep it tightly braided do hot oil treatments once a week. When braiding don't use grease to hold use cholesterol it comes in a tube it will help keep you hair healthy while in braids. The biggest thing to remember is what ever you use to hold the braids do'nt put rubber bands in your hair it strangles and breaks.

Healthy hair comes from a healthy diet and proper grooming. Be sure to get a decent amount of vitamin E in your meals and/or snacks, since that vitamin is essential to hair and nail growth. Also, go easy on the hair products--clogged pores can cause dandruff and even baldness!

The best way is to get it braided, wash it no more than once every 7 days, get it trimmed every 6-8 weeks, keep the scalp and hair moisturized, and cut down on the heat styling products.

There are usually special shampoo's for African-American hair, but a good way to grow any type of hair is to get trims every couple of weeks.
