Ibuprofen and Naproxen are both effective treatments for minor cramps. If you experience other symptoms, a combination medication like Midol may be the best, and it comes with different pain medicines so that you can choose what works best for you. A heating pad or a hot water bottle might also provide relief. Additionally, pressing on the abdomen is helpful.

Relaxation, or massaging the back to ease the pain helps. But increasing the amount of calcium in the diet is the most effective way to control cramping. Foods rich in calcium and magnesium like organic yogurt, leafy green vegetables, etc. Limit the amount of caffine you take in, and excesize like walking or swimming should help.

An active lifestyle reduces a period cramp. It is better to do preventive measures about your health and body than just getting corrective measures when problem is already there.

I found the a hot compress helps, you can also take midol or pamprin, but ibuprofen has the same ingredients as those, and much cheaper.
