Latex paint, with a satin or semigloss sheen will work. I have found that semi-gloss is VERY unforgiving on less than perfect surfaces. Remember to sand, dust and prime.

The best paint to use is lacquer rattle can paint, such as Rustoleum brand Spray Lacquer. Several coats of color, followed by several coats of clear leaves a professional touch.

Use a high quality, glossy enamel paint for best results on furniture. Sand the furniture first or remove old varnish with a stripper. Sand furniture smooth and remove all dust before painting. Apply a light coat first. Let dry thoroughly. Apply a second coat. Let dry thoroughly- and you may want to add a third coat for shine.

I think the best paint for furniture is either oil based or in a spray can. They both are very durable.

A high quality latex based exterior paint in a satin or semi-gloss finish is best because it will be durable and washable. High gloss is also good. Priming is always a good idea, also.
