In order to keep the traditional feel, I would recommend planting rows and tree around the perimeter of the yard for a "shelter belt" look. Scatter some strategically placed ornamental trees throughout the rest of the yard, and maybe throw in a section of weathered wood fencing.

i would go with some small tree around the property, maybe small shurbs and mulch work. You dont want to over power or clutter the look of the home.

Use curved landscape beds to break up the straight lines of your house. Accentuate any tree trunks.Use landscape beds to cover any areas that grow badly.

The best idea is to have flower beds circling your house with unique design of your own personal choice. Away from the house I would plant an assortment of trees but especially on the sunny side of the house plant tall trees that will grow and shade the roof.

The best landscaping for a ranch house is going to be something simple. A nice, well edged lawn with some simple flower beds around the edges. If you live in a good climate for them, azalea bushes around the edge of a yard is a beautiful choice.

Tall grasses, shaped leafy hedges, and smaller ornamental trees like Japanese maple complement the style of your home. Vary the sizes and spread into the lawn to increase interest!

Landscaping is a personal choice, just like choosing a color to paint your walls or w style of clothing to wear. Choose plants that appeal to you and that are able to grow in the environment of the area in which you live. If you plant things that bloom, try to find ones that flower at different times ofthe year.

A large retaining wall is good for ranch homes. You can plant shrubs and flowering trees they don't require too much maintenance.
