Dear x, I'm so sorry to hear of the loss of your mother and I can't imagine how much sadness you must have now. She was a wonderful woman and will be missed by us all.
You should offer your condoleances, or sympathy, and add something to indicate that you care; you can offer to help that person and just remind that friend you are there no matter the time or day. Just show some love.
