It was likely made sometime between 1864 and 1942. If it has an inscription on it that reads "J. Stevens & Co. Chicopee, Mass. Pat. Sept. 6, 1864" it was made between 1864 and 1886. If the inscription reads "J. Stevens A & T Co. Chicopee Falls, Mass. usa pat. Sept. 6, 1864" it was made between 1886 and 1916.

A Springfield J. Stevens single shot 12 gauge shotgun may be as much as 100 years old. It depends on a few factors and the actual model. You can probably take it to a collector who can tell you for sure- that's really the only way to know for sure.

The shotgun was probably manufactured in the year 1913 by the Steven's Arms Company thus, putting its age at 97 years old. Even though the Springfield name in the Arms Industry was heard as early as 1873 which was the year they began making arms.
