What is normal blood work done on canines?

It depends on what the vet is looking for. Dogs normally have their blood tested for heart worms. They also can have complete blood workups, the same as humans do, to test for all types of problems. Kidney and liver functions, etc. Ask your vet what they are testing for.

When I take my dog to the vet they always do blood work on him. I asked the vet what they check for in the blood and I was told they check for heartworm and to ensure the dog is not anemic.

Test consist of General metabolism,kidney function,liver ,thyroid,electrolytes,and pancreas. This would be your general CBC. Unless there is any other reason to do other test this would be the basic.
