What is extradition?

I do not understand what this word means in the legal sense.

Extradition is when a criminal who is arrested in one place is sent to another place to face charges there.

Extradition is the official process whereby one nation or state requests and obtains from another nation or state the surrender of a suspected or convicted criminal.

When a person who was accused (or convicted) of a crime in one country or state is discovered in another country or state, the accusing state can request the transfer of the criminal to its jurisdiction for trial or punishment. The process of requesting and receiving transfer is called "extradition. "
