An immersion blender is just another name for a hand blender or a stick blender. Rather than tossing all your ingredients into a traditional blender and closing the lid to blend, an immersion blender allows you to blend your ingredients right in the bowl or whatever containter you are using.

An immersion blender is similar to a standard blender. It is used for emulsifying sauces, chopping food, and general mixing. They were created in Switzerland and have been available in the United States since the 1980's.
