What is an example of syncretism in the development of Hinduism?

Hinduism mixes different gods that were originally not part of the hinduistic pantheon. A good example are buddhistic saints (buddhas) who became deities in hinduism- buddha Maitreia for example. I am sure they also mixed a lot of religious aspects of brahmanism into their religion, but its difficult to prove.

Frequently throughout the history of Hinduism, attempts at syncretism have been made. One example is the Mughal emperor Akbar, who wanted to merge the best elements of the various different forms of Hinduism and created Din-i-lahi.
