You're exactly correct! Earth Berm houses are houses that are primarily sheltered by the earth, whether construction involves cutting into a hillside and constructing a house within it, or even going underground so that all you really see is a roof. It's a fascinating architectural adventure and I definitely say it's worth looking at, for fun or for future plans!

Earth berm housing is built above ground and then is covered with earth. The earth is sloped away from the house to allow for water to escape. Windows may be seen on sheltered sides of the house. This type of housing maintains a constant temperature.

Earth berm houses are houses that are partially underground, but have exterior walls. In these houses, you reap the benefits of a house without air conditioning - the temperature stays relatively level. It can save you up to 85% on fossil fuels. However, during construction, it is nearly impossible to keep the house dry. This could add extra costs.

Well basically it is underground. It's right in the earth's ground but there is an entrance made specifically for the house. There are very few that exist because they need to be structured properly.
