The trapezius muscle runs up the neck to the base of the skull and extends over each shoulder to hold up the scapulae (shoulder blades. ) It extends down the spine. This muscle can be strained or pulled, and can cause tightness that limits the movement of the neck and head.

A Trapezius injury would be to the large muscle connecting the neck and shoulder. It is rare to actually have an injury there, because it is one of the largest and thickest muscles in the body. Normally pain in that area is stress related.
