A thermocouple is a temperature measuring instrument that is made by taking two wires made of dissimilar metals and welding them together. When this joint is exposed to temperatures a small voltage is generated. By measuring this voltage the thermocouple can be calibrated to accurately measure temperature.

Thermocouple is "device" that consists of two different types of metal with two different temperature coefficients. They work in a way that they produce voltage when heated due to the difference in the temperature. They are inexpensive and they can measure wide range of temperatures. Their main limitation is accuracy.
