I suggest getting her something that is aligned with her interests or perhaps be more observant of her when she goes out. Watch out for the things that catch her eye. If you can afford to, why not plan a trip for the two of you? You could also ask her pointblank.

How about two crystal wine glasses with "To my wife, the love of my life on Valentines 2011" etched into them. A nice boquet of flowers, pretty ordinary until she finds the two tickets to a great play tucked into the card slot! Surprise!!
