What is a divot for?

It is my understanding that a divot is the chunk of turf you accidentally hack up when swinging a golf club, either by total accident or as an unavoidable byproduct of play. They should be replaced after your shot in order to maintain the fairway.

A divot is the hole left in the grass after you swing at the ball. If the grass and dirt are large enough, you should try to retrieve it and replace back in the divot. If the golf cart has a plastic container with sand mixed with grass seed, use that to fill in the divot.

A divot is created when the golfer hits the ball on the grass with his club and slightly digs into the grass leaving a bare spot. The bare spot is called a divot. The golfer should try to retrieve the patch of grass and place it back in the bare spot ( divot ) so the grass can regrow.

A divot is the strip of dirt after you take an iron shot out of the fairway and remove the grass with your impact. If you dig too deep a divot, it means you are swinging too low and need to change your angle.
