A concrete driveway apron is a layer of concrete (often ~10 feet in distance) starting from the street towards the house. This is to support the heavier load of big trucks which might clip this area while driving, when normal asphalt can't support it.

A driveway apron is the portion of the driveway that intersects the roadway and is generally thicker and/or reinforced to accomodate heavier traffic loads.

This is a leather apron that is worn while working on concrete driveways. Although hard to find it is a highly desirable gift for the handyman in your life.
